Hump Day Picks With Eric - MarathonPacks

Me And My Papa Joe

I bought the raddest shirt ever in San Diego that says "Wednesday Is Hump Day." Now if some wonderful 3rd party marketing camera wants to give me a digital camera so I can snap a pick of it I'll love you forever.

It's been a rough week and a really rough morning. My grandfather is in the hospital and not doing so well. Not only is the stress of work bogging me down but the thought of losing my Papa Joe is making it really hard to cope with things. Can't sleep, having difficulty focusing on projects, and obligations. Im sorry if I've been flaky lately.

My picks this week are dedicated to my Papa Joe.

Eric From MARATHONPACKS.COM was nice enough to join me this week. Go to his site and you can be sure you will read some intelligent prose on music related issues.

5.) San Francisco - When we were kids my grandpa would get us out of school and take us on a day of fun through the city. It's my favorite place to be in the world because the entire city reminds me of him.

4.) Otis Redding - "(Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay" (MP3)

3.) Frank Sinatra - My grandpa loves Frank and looked a lot like him when we was a boy.

2.) Miles Davis - "Yesterdays" (MP3) - Pretty self explanatory

1.) Rosanne Cash - "I Was Watching You" (Windows Media) Just Listen.

ERIC MARATHONPACKS HUMP DAY PICKS
So my duty here is to list the 5 items that get me through the week. I’m
a relatively easy to please Midwestern boy, so it don’t take much. Here
they are, in all of their randomly numbered glory:

1. My jacket. I bought this wonder for $1.50 at a thrift store in Indy called Value Village, for the sole reason that it had a high collar. You
see, I’m 6’5” and have a neck like a giraffe, so anytime I can get all
Victorian up in this piece with my neck coverage, I’m all for it. The
best thing of all, though, is that I bought it three years ago, and it’s
in the middle of its third winter with no signs of letting up. That’s an
average of 50 cents per winter, by my calculations. Here's a picture of
me in it for proof. I hope I don't look too pretentious--I don't pose
well.

2. My radar detector. My girlfriend got it for me this past Christmas,
and it’s already paid for itself. My daily commute averages about 2 hours
total, and it’s through the sticks of west central Indiana (yes, the west
central Indiana your parents warned you about), where cops like to hide
behind bales of hay and other broken-down cop cars. It's one of those
detectors that not only scans 360 degrees, but also scrambles the cop's
radar gun. Probably illegal in several states, and also acts as a big
neon sign that says "break into this car!"

3. Delicious, generic coffee. I put so much crap into my coffee that it
doesn’t matter from whence it came. A large cup of whatever's cheap in
the morning is an absolute necessity.

4. Four Tet. I’m going through a bit of a phase right now. His
Madvillainy remixes are insane—the best of the bunch being "Money Folder."
That free-jazz break in the middle is madness. Also, he donated a cover
of “Iron Man” to the Black Sabbath tribute compilation Everything Comes
and Goes last year, and that’s a good one as well. Normal, but good.

5. The old G4. School/work just upgraded my OS last week, and its hummin'
once more. Like most people reading this, much of my life takes place
on/through/near this thing, and I honestly don’t know what I’d do if we
parted (sniff).

(I know this is cheating, but my #6 is Indiana University basketball--my
Hoosiers are playing very well this year [I'm writing this before tip-off
of the 1/24 game with Iowa, so this could be all for naught], which is a
positive for my health. When a game's on, I must not be disturbed.)

I'll have you know that back when I was there, Iowa's basketball team was a bunch of date-rapists. I hope your Indiana can handle them. . .
