[MP3] The Duke Spirit - "Win Your Love"
[MP3] The Duke Spirit - "Cuts Across The Land"

My good buddy Matty sent me The Duke Spirit's debut album in the mail recently. I have to say it has not left my car stereo since. It is very rare that I keep an album in on repeat - especially since getting an iPOD. I've developed a strong case of POD-DD.

I'll be blunt. I took one look at this band and thought "Oh Jeez here comes another Sounds wanna-be band. Super hot blonde nordic looking singer, 4 dark and desheveled indie rocker looking dudes. Come'on gimme a break I've seen/heard it all before, right? WRONG. Dead Wrong.

I popped open their CD and tossed it into my CD changer and it was more than apparent - there is something undeniably special about The Duke Spirit. Smart lyrics, Leila's steady yet amazingly unbreakable voice, and a austere talent which screams "Hey, I could do this in my sleep."

The band is heading stateside for a string of shows, SXSW. and the Coachella Music Festival. The Duke Spirit will release their debut L.P, Cuts Across The Land, in the U.S. next Tuesday, March 7th on Startime. I STRONGLY suggest you pick it up.

I saw The Duke Spirit up in London last week, supporting my favourite band Elbow. I have to say, I was disappointed. They were very samey live, and despite their best efforts, bored most of the crowd, and were overshadowed by the other support bands Forward,Russia and Larrikin Love (the latter of which are amazing). Also, the lead singer's hair is now dark brown.
