Photos! Tapes N Tapes w/ Cold War Kids

COLD WAR KIDS - AlterKnit Lounge Last Night

Despite my best efforts not to get sick after SXSW like half of Los Angeles I am, unfortunately, getting fucking sick. I've taken the stance of beating the shit outta my cold with thera flu, vitamins, and juice juice juice. As much as I wanted to stay in last night, nurse my swampy headache, and watch LOST I couldn't do it. Too many good shows to pass up and I'm a greedy girl. Last night I hit the town to catch Tapes N' Tapes w/ Cold War Kids, Guillemots, and Say Hi To Your Mom.

Cold War Kids

I hit the AlterKnit lounge to see Tapes N' Tapes and Cold War Kids first. The boys finally made their way to the left side. The show was SOLD OUT before it even started despite being an early show (6:30 PM). The AlterKnit only holds 70 people but has decent sound. I sat and caught up with the TnT guys (having not seen them in a blistering 48 hrs) before heading in to watch the Kids. They put on...once again...an amazing show. Near the end of their set I saw their manager Brett waving a disc at them. Their new Up In Rags EP was finally in!! Hooray! I picked it up in a heartbeat. Below is a new track from it. Its not up for sale online yet but if you go their show at Spaceland with Tapes N' Tapes tonight You can certainly pick one up!!.

Tapes N' Tapes

Tapes N' Tapes were up next and had some a slew of technical difficulties throughout the show. Singer Josh's guitar kept cutting out and a few broken strings later, the guys decided to fuck it and just have fun. The crowd was certainly getting into it. A couple in the mid 30s standing right next to me laid down the bump and grind. It was pretty disturbing but hey, Tapes N' Tapes music is sexy as shit....it's bound to happen. My camera battery died so that's it on the pictures for the night. [VIEW PHOTO SET HERE]

I said goodbye to the guys and headed over to the Hotel Cafe to see Guillemots. . I had heard great things about the band and they recieved a glowing reccomendation from Robot Mark. My morbid curiousity took over and I braved the tiny club to see them play. The singer's voice is like crystal...absolutely amazing. Best way to decribe them: Doves meets Damien Rice. Glorious.

Say Hi To Your Mom

[MP3] Say Hi To Your Mom - "Dimentions and Verticals"

Last stop was the Silverlake Lounge to watch Mark DJ and see Say Hi To Your Mom. They were pretty fantastic. Perfect band to see in your college campus coffee shop or in a venue around NYU. Definately for fans of Silversun Pickups.

I have more to post later today but for now Im super sick and need some thera-flu...ugh...

TONIGHT IN LOS ANGELES:
Tapes N' Tapes, Cold War Kids, Blackbud @ Club Spaceland
Earlimart, Band Of Horses, Josh Ritter, Peter Walker @ King King
The Sounds, Morningwood @ Henry Fonda Theatre
Snow Patrol @ The Troubadour

COOL ON THE INTER-NERD:

Dodge posted up his Day 3 recap of SXSW which includes photos from our Hell Ya! Party and me totally kicking ass on tamborine with Birdmonster

Lazy Muncie - Yet another parody of the SNL skit. The kid in this video is an actor in several Mormon films such as "The RM" and "The Singles Ward." Het you have to give props to the mormon upbringing sometime.

Garrison uploaded this the other day. Bill from Sound Team exclusive solo performance. I think the guy at the drive thru window was a little freaked out. Classic.
