YYY Show Your Bones....With Relish! Contest

FEATURED CONTEST: YEAH YEAH YEAHS

Aiight, so I'm probably the 7 billionth blogger to run a contest for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs new LP - The aptly titled Show Your Bones, to which someone recently described to me as "Deceased."

Bite your tongue naysayers. I have only heard a handful of tracks off the album, but by and large they weren't half bad. There are some pretty kick ass remixes circulating the web too. Anyone who knows me knows I heart Karen and the gang as if they were my own children with awesome art deco haircuts.

Yes Yes, This is indeed yet another YYY freebie. However, I feel that by running A Yeah Yeah Yeahs Contest on this fair blog I can help bring to light a subject that is very dear to my heart -HOLLANDAISE. (Plus Come'On! Who could ever get sick of FREE STUFF!)

The rules for this contest are simple.

TO ENTER: Hit me with your best recipe which includes the ingredient Hollandaise in the comments section. If you dont know what it is click here. My roommate and I will tirelessly create every dish and present them to a panel of judges (largely consisting of members of the homeless population in Koreatown) and a winner will be selected.

the best recipe will win a copy of Show Your Bones and a WIRE WISK!!

Considering only 6 people (2 of which were me) entered the Dirty Little Secret contest this should be a snap.

COME ON NOW YOU DON'T WANT TO BE THE ONLY PERSON OUT THERE WITHOUT A WISK! ENTER NOW!

Cook potatoes in boiling water to cover 4 to 5 minutes or until almost tender; drain and set aside. Place bell pepper on an aluminum foil-lined baking sheet.

Broil 5 inches from heat (with electric oven door partially open) about 5 minutes on each side or until pepper looks blistered.

Place pepper in a plastic bag; seal and let stand 10 minutes to loosen skin
Coarsely chop pepper. Set aside.

Melt butter in a skillet or Dutch oven over medium high heat; add potato and 1 cup onion, and cook, stirring constantly, until onion is tender. Add bell pepper, tomato, crabmeat, etc. and cook all until thoroughly heated. Spoon hash and place poached eggs onto individual serving plates. Top with Three Pepper Hollandaise. Yields 4 servings.

LUMP OF HOLLANDAISE

enter a restaurant that uses hollandaise sauce in their cooking. ask for some hollandaise sauce to go. when they look at you strangely, insist that you've done this many times before, and that if they aren't willing to accept your business you'll gladly give it to a more friendly restaurant. other techniques of negotiation can be employed, such as saying you'll make it "very worth their while" and refusing to explain what that means.

once you have negotiated the deal, take the hollandaise sauce out into the parking lot and eat it on the curb, in plain view of the people who just sold it to you. during the consumption you can either pretend to be violently ill or pretend to be orgasmically happy with your meal.

* 2 bunches fresh asparagus, trimmed and cut into 1 inch pieces
* 6 cloves garlic, diced
* 1 pound sliced fresh mushrooms

DIRECTIONS:

1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
2. Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the asparagus, and cook for about 10 minutes. Stir in the mushrooms and garlic; cook and stir until the mushrooms are tender. Set aside.
3. Prepare the hollandaise sauce according to package directions. Stir into the asparagus and mushrooms.
4. Lay one sheet of puff pastry out flat in the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish, letting any extra dough go up the sides. Spread the asparagus mixture evenly over the dough. Top with the other sheet of pastry, and pinch the edges together to seal.
5. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes in the preheated oven, until pastry is golden brown. Cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
