[MP3] The Ark - This Piece Of Poetry Is Meant To Do Harm

It's good to see that Swedish glam rock is still very much alive and well in the Fall Out Boy infested music world of today. I am a TOTAL sucker for anything Swedish (my apartment is full testament to that). Hell, If you're a boy and mildly cute - saying that your Swedish totally kicks you up to the next level of hotness in my book.

Which bring us to the point of this post. The Ark are the latest wave in the great exodus of talented musicians sojourning on from Malmo. I don't traditionally like bands that make me feel like I'm not glamorous enough to dig their music, but The Ark's fantastic over-the-top new album, State Of The Ark, is just too damn clap-happy to ignore. The melodies are fantastic and catchy songs with names like "Clamour For Glamour" and "One of Us Is Going To Die Young" have me overlooking the obvious Darkness comparisons I should be making. Get off your high horse and just enjoy this band.

The Ark are playing Los Angeles TONIGHT at The Troubadour with Rocket.

OTHER GREAT MUSIC FROM SWEDEN I'M ROCKING RIGHT NOW:

THE KNIFE

[MP3] The Knife - We Share Our Mother's Health

Dear fucking LORD is this track hot!!!! I mean really, would you expect anything less from The Knife. Holy crap. Everytime I get in my car I pump this track as loud as I can. I put it on repeat, sing along to every verse, and make up Mitzubishi worthy dance moves while narrowly missing sidewalk vendors as they cross the street. "We Share Out Mother's Health" is off of Silent Shout. I don't think I've played a track this much in secession since Ace of Base's "I Saw The Sign."

JOHNOSSI

[MP3] Johnossi - Execution Song
[MP3] Johnossi - Man Must Dance

How do you come up with a band name like Johnossi? I'm sure many slight-minded reporters will wind up asking this band that very question (Come on people it's right on their myspace page).

Well my children, it all started when a boy named JOHN and a boy named OSSI decided to come together and write kick ass rock music. Since then they have toured all over Scandinavia with bands such as the Soundtrack of Our Lives, and released their self-titled first album - which came highly saluted by Sweden's finest music critics.

Johnossi have made their way to America and will be playing two shows at Pianos in NYC beginning TONIGHT. The band will then power on towards Los Angeles with two performances early next week (Tues. June 27th at Safari Sam's w/ Dirty Little Secret. Wed. June 28th at Club Spaceland).

IN OTHER NEWS:

Morningwood
will be performing "Jetsetter" on David Letterman Tonight. Their first U.S. Headlining tour will be stopping in the band's hometown TONIGHT at the Warsaw in Brooklyn.

PS. If you're a Swedish boy and very much want to get in touch with me you can email me at jax@rockinsider.com. I love flowers and candies and all sorts of tokens of affection. You can send those to the address listed to the right. ;)

You should check out Honey Is Cool. Karin Dreijers band prior to The Knife. They sound nothing alike, with the exception the charactaristic and so utterly brilliant voice of Karin. You might also want to check out Jenny Wilson, The Embassy, KVLR and Convoj. So many great bands.
