Mmmmmmmmmmm WARD

LADY IN THE WATER

I really don't go see movies. I hate movie theaters. Probably has something to do with my allergy to spending $15 bucks to sit in a crowded movie theater for 2 1/2 hrs where I can't stretch out my knees. It takes some serious claritin to get me into a movie theater in Hollywood.

Some friends forced me out of my shell and I went to see Lady In The Water at The Arclight in Hollywood. I ate my weight in Milk Duds and I'm paying for it today.

Overall, I actually found myself liking the movie. I went in WANTING TO HATE IT. Lady In The Water highlights to the storytelling process right down to plots, foreshadowing, and character development. Shayamalan even takes a stab at movie critiques (hehe look forward to a scene that involves a cynical movie critique being confronted by a fantastical creature). If you were a hardcore creative writing nerd like I was in high school you will at least appreciate this movie.

M. WARD

[MP3] M. Ward - To Go Home
[MP3] M. Ward - Chinese Translation

I have been listening to M. Ward an awful lot these days. "To Go Home" is such a welcoming track. His fifth full length record, Post War, will be released Aug. 22nd on Merge Records. The album, like most of his early work, was written and produced by M Ward himself and features performances from Rachel Blumberg, Jim James, Jordan Hudson, Skip Von Kuske, Amanda Lawrence, Mike Coykendall, Mike Mogis...and my girlfriend, Neko Case.

NEKO.....sigh CALL ME.

SHINY TOY GUNS

Dodge featured LA Natives Shiny Toy Guns today. Not bad. The band has been floating around for a few years playing everything from Club Moscow, The Key Club, and DJing at Beauty Bar. the band just inked a deal with Universal/Motown (They were on SideCho Records for a few months). You can catch STG this Thursday at the Hammer Museum in Westwood for FREE (Thank Indie 103.1 fm for that).
