Holy Crap - Is It A Release Day..

Chris and I were talking on IM last night about today's release day. It's an Indie kids wet dream. So much good music available TODAY it's hard to decide what to buy, what to burn, and what to steal off Oink! THE GOOD: The Decemberists - The Crane Wife (Capitol) Best New Music on Pitchfork with an 8.4 rating. The band is heading out on tour later this month. I'm so excited for the Wiltern show on Oct 21st with Rock Insider favs LAVENDER DIAMOND. Beck - The Information (Interscope) I love the incredible LACK of information I could find online about this release (Maybe he did that on purpose, I dunno). Beck will be headlining the LA Weekly Detour Festival downtown this weekend with The Like, Of Montreal, and Queens of The Stone Age. Who knows, maybe he'll do another Secret Silverlake Lounge Show after the festival (I'm still pissed as all hell thatI missed this. GAH!) Sean Lennon - Friendly Fire (Capitol) It's been 8 years since Sean Lennon's Into The Sun was released. Friendly Fire is an insane follow-up. It took me a while to get into this record, but Sean's simple songs and fantastic use cinematic swell and strings eventually won favor in my car stereo. The lyrics are slightly suspect, but I think they just add to beauty of the record. The CD comes packaged with a full length film set to the music directed by Michele Civetta. Look out for cameos from Bijou Phillips, Lindsay Lohan, Devon Aoki, Jordana Brewster, and more. [VIEW TRAILER] North American tour planned for mid-November. Stay tuned for dates. The Hold Steady - Boys and Girls In America (Vagrant) [MP3] The Hold Steady - Chips Ahoy! I haven't given this record a proper listening. I'm super slow (sue me). I have heard nothing but good things though. Chips Ahoy! sounds like good ole fashioned rock n' roll. I'm excited to hear more. Akron/Family - Meek Warrior (Young God Records) [MP3] Akron/Family - Gone Beyond I have to personally thank Stereogum for turning me on to this band. My musical tastes have been leaning towards folk, bluegrass, and classic rock as of late - Meek Warrior perfectly satiated all of above. I have seen this band being compared to Led Zeppelin. THE BAD: JET - Shine On (Atlantic) I think Pitchfork Media just hit a new low with this review. Still, it made me laugh out loud. THE JUST PLAIN UGLY: The Killers - Sam's Town (Island) Sam's Town was super disappointing. I know this site is for the love of music - BUT SUPER DISAPPOINTING. Where HOT FUSS made my top 10 list in 2003 - You're better off buying a CD rated by a monkey pissing in his own mouth over this.
