Schmindie Friday! Helping You Discover New Music.

Ok so I can tell you exactly how my average Friday at work rolls......

I get really GUNG HO in the morning - pounding out TONS of emails, getting my inbox sorted and look gorgeous, completing all the tasks that I first set up for the week...Then by 4 PM I'm totally zoned out. Productivity takes a back seat and I surf Blogs for new music for a few minutes. I do this EVERY Friday and I always get pissed because I can never find anything good.

It's got to end!!

Rock Insider is proud to present SCHMINDIE FRIDAYS. We will post three acts who have never been featured on this blog before with new music from each.

I strongly urge other blogs to start something similar. Let's bring back new music!

The Deadly Syndrome

[MP3] The Deadly Syndrome - The Ship That Shot Itself
[MP3] The Deadly Syndrome - Eucalyptus

The Deadly Syndrome are new to the LA Scene (They just barely started playing shows). In just a few a short months they are already getting airplay on Indie 103.1, delighting crowds from Sunset to the Eastside, and creating quite a buzz in the A&R world.

The band sent me a four song sampler in the mail and I am quite enjoying their folk meets driving dance beats. Reminds me a lot of early Wolf Parade.

You can catch them at Hell Ya! Oct 19th at The Echo with The Vanity, Berko, and Glacier Hiking.

THE CASSETTES

[MP3] The Cassettes - Lady Faire
[MP3] The Cassettes - Sweet Virginia

Travis from Buddyhead sent me The Cassettes new album, 'Neath The Pale Moon, in the mail this week. He told me I would love it, which is an understatement - I AM FRIGGIN' IN LOVE. Bad ass rock n' roll, southern rock, and blues. Just what I have been feeling these days. Since getting it in the mail yesterday I have listened to it 4 times. I played "Lady Faire" on repeat 5 times.

The band even recorded there own 1940s style radio show which is available now as a podcast. They are heading out on tour this fall. No West Coast dates posted yet but you can betch your bottom dollar the second theyre in LA I will be letting you.

Purchase 'Neath The Pale Moon On iTUNES Right Now.

SKYBOX

[MP3] Skybox - Various Kitchen Utensils

My friend Aubrey sent me a link to this song earlier this morning. His instructions, "Listen to it 3 times and tell me that's not incredibly catchy!" Well I did listen to it - 3 times exactly in fact, and yes I concur - IT IS INCREDIBLY CATCHY. Skybox's track "Various Kitchen Utensils" Twinkling piano, a decidedly upbeat vocalist, the quinessential "Ooohs" "Ahhhs" and "Ba Ba Da Da Dums" and one ridiculously catchy chorus. I immediately though of OK Go when I heard the track - which makes sense. The band hails from Chicago, IL (same city, same scene).

Apparently there is a lot of hype brewing around this band in the windy city and beyond. You can catch Skybox at CMJ this year (Nov 2nd t be exact. Click here for dates).

'Tis the weekend and I'm off to lurk around the web!

Sorry I had to post this video one more time for the week. It's just too hilarious...HAHAHAHAHA

Only needed one listen to Skybox to say, Hell Yeah.
Awesome.

Re: the Cassettes: the sound of "LadyFaire" reminded me enough of the Subways that I decided I liked it. (Reminded me of the Subways until the singer started singing, anyway.) Thanks.
