Meet MAX! Plus The Angelic Voices Of The Chapin Sisters

BABY MAX AND AUNTIE JAX

[MP3] Crystal Skulls - Baby Boy

I have been doing a whole lot of NOTHING in the State of Deseret (aka UTAH) for the last four days. The only things I have managed to do since getting strip searched at the airport are babysitting my nephew, sleeping, knitting 3 scarves, and watching 30+ hours of the History Channel (I'm fully engrossed in Biblical Battles, The history of Christ, and other such programming to celebrate Baby Jesus).

I don't have a car I can use at my parent's house which has made me the default babysitter for my nephew Max. Not that I mind one bit. He is quite possibly the most adorable 9 month old on the face of the planet. I have a have developed a severe case of Baby's First Christmas-itis. If this kid grows up to be a spoiled little brat I take full responsibility. I have been doting on him like no tomorrow. I'm going to be really sad to leave him when I come back to LA on the 28th.

THE CHAPIN SISTERS

[MP3] The Chapin Sisters - Bird Song

On to new music. I was recently introduced to the angelic voices of Los Angeles' own Chapin Sisters. Yes, they are in fact three sisters who sing some of the most soulful bluegrass with magical three part harmonies I have heard in the longest time. The sisters (Abigail, Lily, Jessica) have been singing together most of their life, but officially became a group about three years ago. In the grand tradition of folk and bluegrass (The Carter Family, The Watson, Twins, Hank Williams, Woodie Guthrie) the girls keep it all in family - enlisting friends and loved ones to help them record their full length debut - due out sometime in 2007.

The ladies recently released their first EP, available now at CDBaby.com. The Chapin Sisters will next be playing Los Angeles March 23rd at The Getty Center.

DELTA SPIRIT FINAL SPACELAND RESIDENCY SHOW TONIGHT

I'm sure most of you are out and about today returning Christmas gifts and going to see all those fanciful holiday movies. If you're not too tired tonight I strongly recommend heading over to Club Spaceland to catch the last night of Delta's Spirit's Monday Night Residency. Delta Spirit will be joined by good friends The Willowz and The Prayers from San Diego. I really wish I was in Los Angeles and could go.

Happy Holidays Everyone! I will be sure to check in before week's end. In the mean time enjoy some leftovers, burn all youre new CDs and take them to Amoeba, and go see some movie with Dicaprio in it.

xoxo

Chapin Sisters' version of Split Enz' "Six Months In A Leaky Boat" isn't all that different from the original - which makes it an incredible exercise in nailing harmonies.
