The Colour Every Thursday In January At Spaceland
![]() The Colour - Between Earth and Sky LP in stores February 6th [Video] The Colour - Cave Sessions: Black Summer [MP3] The Colour - Black Summer I have watched The Colour slowly make their way down the Sunset Strip for the better part of 3 years. I first saw the band in 2004 at The Key Club, then again in 2005 at The Roxy with OkGo . Now at the dawn of 2007 the band has made its way to Silverlake and will be setting up shop at Club Spaceland for the next four Thursdays in a row. ![]() In the early days you could tell the Colour were destined for something greater than the pay to play clubs and the jaded strip crowds. They were good, but weren't quite great. The band really seemed to be struggling to find their sound and their place in the microcosm of music in LA. The band toured the west coast with Rock Insider favs Briertone and eventually got signed to Rethink Records - a subsid of EMI. The band evolved, got older, wiser, and with it their music grew. I saw The Colour at the Troubadour in December with Delta Spirit. The band have really hit their stride with a blend of blues, soul, classic rock, and dark 60s psychedelic that is truly their own. It was quite an entertaining show. During the last song singer Wyatt Hull climbed up the lighting trestle, jumped to the balcony upstairs, and precariously balanced on the far ledge while a handful of onlookers gawked in awe. He stretched his mic chord to the limit and had the audacity to break into a confident swagger mere inches from a 20 foot fall. You just don't see that in anymore - singers risking life and limb in the name of showmanship. What could have ended in disaster worked masterfully as the crowd erupted in applause. The Colour will release their long overdue debut LP, Between Earth and Sky, on February 6th. Be sure to catch them performing TONIGHT at Club Spaceland with Japanese Motors, Austin James Band, Sparrow Love Crew. Admission is FREE with guest list spot and $5 at the door. hit the band up on myspace to get in for free. The Colour will also be doing a FREE residency at the Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa all month long with good friends Delta Spirit - a lineup well worth the roadtrip.
