6/7 Tonight in Los Angeles (and last night!)
![]() The Front @ The Troubadour 6/6/7 I went to The Front's CD Release Party last night at the Troubadour. Some words: The Front - Grungy, dynamic, talky, fun. I liked them when heard them on the mp3's posted here on Rock Insider, and I like them more now after their show. Their songs are very different from one another, yet they have a very distinct, cohesive sound. And their banter was cute. Mezzanine Owls - Echo, echo, echo. Sorry, guys. I had to go secondhand smoke outside for a bit. ![]() The Dodos @ the Troubadour 6/6/7 The Dodos - Ebb & flow, surprising, molestache. These two guys, one on vocals and acoustic guitar and one on drums, made a huge impact and won a lot of fans last night. It took me a couple songs to warm up to what they were doing, and after I "got it" I was anxious for them to get through their set - in a good way. You know that feeling after a good set, like the satisfied feeling after a meal or the cosmic insight after watching Nova? I was waiting for that. They're kind of like a less poppy version of Modest Mouse. Or not. Sunday Drivers - Synths, hot girl bassist in high-heel boots. Sounded pretty good as I slipped into a Guinness oblivion. What's the haps? Here it is... TONIGHT IN LOS ANGELES: Kaiser Chiefs, The Airborne Toxic Event @ The Henry Fonda Theater - I love the Kaiser Chiefs. But the only time I've seen their live performance was on Jimmy Kimmel or some other late night talk show and the back vocals for "Ruby" were so strange that I cringed on every chorus. But I still love them. Unsane, 400 Blows, Mouth of the Architect @ Spaceland - Ahhhhhh! This show will be a monster! Good thing I'm posting this calendar or I wouldn't have known about it! See you there. The Transmissions, The Henry Clay People, The Kris Special, Bank Holiday @ Mr. T's Bowl Tennessee 3 (Johnny Cash's Legendary Band), Merle Jagger @ Safari Sam's - Yee haw! Is Merle Jagger a generic brand of Merle Haggard? Castledoor, Signal Hill Transmission, Dynamite Walls, Speaker Speaker @ Silverlake Lounge Mice Parade, Tom Brosseau, Kira Kira, Caroline @ The Echo The Mae Shi, Tik//Tik, Anavan, Kevin Shields, Ex-Oblivione @ The Smell Let's Go Sailing, Bedroom Walls, Whispertown 2000, Quazar & the Bamboozled @ Troubadour |

chris,
everyone's entitled to their own opinion - nicole was just voicing hers.
Mezzanine Owls are one of my favorite bands in LA. They put out a great album and their live show keeps getting exponentially better.
Steroids are the new coke.
Hey dumb dumb - I liked the Dodos the best. And you're ugly.
