Perhaps your friends have told you how they "destroyed at The Scene Bar" or that they "blew everyone's mind" at 6th street warehouse on Saturday. You may have shared a beer with them at Eagle Rock Lanes or even lost your girlfriend to percussionist Sexual Chocolate's magnetic pull. There is something undeniably special about this band. I'm here today to tell you that everything you may have heard is ABSOLUTELY TRUE. I first stumbled upon Crystal Antlers around Christmas and have seen them three times in past few weeks. It's taking me two months to work up the courage to write about them. I've discovered when I find a band I really REALLY like it becomes next to impossible to feature them. I start fearing that I won't be able to do their live show justice or find the right adjective to describe their monstrous sound. I start 8 posts and delete them all because they sound contrived and downright stupid. Then I start worrying about hype and begin carefully writing sentences devoid of the usual buzzwords, declarative statements, and my famous exclamation points. Today I decided to get honest with myself - FUCK IT. Everyone, I LOVE THIS BAND. They're young, raw, innovative, talented, and absolutely amazing live. Normally I politely direct people to download an MP3 and try to see the band the next time they play. This time....IT'S MANDATORY. Crystal Antlers had their van and most ALL of their amazing vintage gear stolen last week. That hardly is slowing these guys down. Tonight the band will be playing not one but TWO shows in Los Angeles on borrowed equipment - first at The Matt Cronk Benefit at The Echo with Darker My Love, Tweak Bird and Icarus Line and later at Silverlake Lounge for the Entrance Residency.
