Recap: Hell Ya! Night W/ Mezzanine Owls

Mezzanine Owls perform at EP/Seven Inch Release 2/28 At The Echo. Photo by Mouse

I wasn't able to get a post up yesterday because I was trapped in a car driving up to San Francisco for Noise Pop. Quite a remarkable feat considering I had only slept an hour the night before and was one eyed from a run in with a contact lens.

I'm totally the last one to write about Mezzanine Owls ridiculously amazing EP/Seven Inch release show at HELL YA! on Thursday. Let's just put it this way: If you missed the show - you missed a spectacle. Frankel and Eagle and Talon were simply fantastic. It was my first time seeing both and they totally impressed.

Mezzanine Owls performed to a nearly packed house and absolutely KILLED IT. The band played every track off their new EP, some old favorites (LIGHTBULB!),  and even surprised me by busting out two brand spanking new tunes in the middle of the set they had never performed before that were just epic.

The Mae Shi closed the night out in a frenzy of christmas lights, chanting, chair dancing, and white sheets. I'm still not sure exactly what happened but damnit it was rad as hell. Check out the video below and get a front row view of the craziness.

It's insane to think that Mezzanine Owls EP is finally out! The band worked so hard on it and it has been such a fun process. Please if you have a moment today pick up a copy of it.

twas my first time seeing the Mezz Owls and now I can't wait for SXSW to see them again! The record looks amazing -- great job Jax!

The Mae Shi were just what the mad scientest ordered... I totally geeked out to the band afterward, telling them something about how they awaken the appendix-like "Mae Shi organ" in me. See what a long week and not enough food will make you say?

Anyway, great show!
