I HAVE A HUGE BONER FOR THIS BAND

FEATURED ARTIST
Morningwood - "Jetsetter" (Video)

FEATURED MP3S
Hard-Fi - "Hard To Beat" (MP3)
Morningwood - "The Nth Degree" (MP3)

I didn't have time to make this post yesterday because I was busy making a living (and no stalker Randy I am NOT a prostitute! Although you're right I do spend too much time on Hollywood Blvd). Now that I'm all moved in to my new place (YAYY!) I finally have time to sit down and talk about my new obsession - Morningwood.

No I'm not talking about erections (You people all have dirty minds). Morningwood is a positively orgasmic 4 piece from New York City who are going to be a force to be reckoned with come 2006. Soaring guitar riffs matched with singer Chantal Claret's cheeky lyrics and some serious rawwwwk and roll are just what I've been looking for lately. Ask my roommate Fern - I have been playing "Jetsetter" nonstop for the last week.

In my usual blog search I found another track, "The Nth Degree," available for download on Fluxblog. "OMG it's the audio version of Skittles!!" he declares. I couldn't have said it better myself.

Morningwood will be sweeping through SoCal in a hurricane of tits, guitars, and plenty of sex appeal this week playing 5 shows from SD to LA to Pomona (wtf?) - including tonight's SOLD OUT show at the Troubadour with Hard-Fi (orgasmic band #2) and The Dead 60s. You bet your ass I'll be at each and every show stripping in the front row. Check out my Myspace page for all the dates.

Im actually on my way out to the Troubie in a few hours. Just took my chaser tablets and as soon as my skin stops screaming (fucking retin-a) I'm outta here.

Before I leave some rumor mill for ya. Please oh please just let this be a rumor.

AP Magazine reported that Dim Mak Records to the Madden bros from Good Charlotte. WTF!?!?!?! Steve, I love you. You just signed The Rakes here in the U.S. and your parties have always felt more like get togethers with close friends rather than tarty excuses for hipsters to drink and flaunt how "indie" and "thin" they can be. Read this thread from AbsolutePunk. There are 1000s more who don't want to see Dim Mak change hands and die.

FUCK THIEF STOLE MY SUPERGRASS ADVANCE

Supergrass - "St. Petersburg" (Video) QuickTime download
official site
myspace

Siigh, this teaches me to leave my purse on the side of a couch at Club Moscow. Only things I miss are the pics of my dogs and my only advance of Supergrass' new album - Road To Rouen.

If you're a Supergrass fan you will love this record no matter what. I should warn you though, its a far departure from their normal upbeat, quirky brit-pop songs. Road To Rouen (set to be released Sept. 27th) is the beginning of a new chapter in the bands history. Think "Late In the Day" all grown up. I personally am in love with it. It's quintessential driving music.

So dirty dirty thief I hope you enjoy Supergrass as much as I do. I also hope you burn in hell cuz that's where all dirty thieves go.

Tonight The Cribs play Loose Tooth/showcase at The Viper Room. Tomorrow.....GET EVEN!!

To The Person Just Stole My Wallet At Club Moscow

Congratulations you just inherited a sorted collection of business cards and two CANCELLED credit cards. Are you proud of yourself? WOW! All you got was a $13 dollar wallet i bought in china town 3 yrs ago

My car keys, cell phone, and drivers license were all found, but if i find out who you are expect to get your ass beat.

THANK YOU SOO MUCH RAY RAY!!!

I FINALLY JOINED THE i-GENERATION

FEATURED MP3S
The Go-Betweens - "Here Comes A City" (MP3)
The Cribs - "Hey Scenesters" (MP3)
Editors - "Munich" (MP3)

After much thought and toil and finally did it. I went out and bought myself and iPOD over the weekend. I know, Everyone and their grandma's poodle has an iPOD by now. I honestly dont know why I waited so long. I think its because Im just lazy and music for me has always been abt CDs and Vinyl. Im now part of the fold. Steve Jobs you can stop sending those men out to kill me.

Took me awhile to figure out how to upload songs to the damn thing (I feel like such an idiot. Of all people i should be able to figure out an iPOD) But once i did I crammed that thing full of new music from The Lovekevins, Editors, Communique, The Spinto Band, The Go-Betweens, The GO! Team, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah!, Tom Vek, Morningwood, Rilo Kiley, Satisfaction, Briertone and ALL MY FAVS.

Who Needs Men? I have an iPOD now.

So you all dont feel left out I made you a great little iPOD mix. Download tracks above.

Upcoming shows you RockInsider freaks should know abt... The Lovemakers return to Club Moscow this Wed. with my boys in AMERICAN EYES. You better be a Boardners early less you not get in. 10 PM. Im dead fucking serious.

Thursday RockInsider Quarry Artist The Cribs will be playing Urb Magazine and Dim Mak Records' Loose Tooth at Forbidden City. I already RSVP'ed and so should you (just FYI rsvp is free b4 11 PM and $5 after so bring cash just in case). Band goes on at about 11:30 PM. I will be in the front row dancing - just look for the weird recently colored brunette hair.

BACK TO THE 9 TO 5...

FEATURED MP3s

Shout Out Louds - "The Comeback" (Big Slippa Remix By Ratatat) (MP3)
Run Run Run - "Skyscraper" (MP3)
OK Go - "Do What You Want" (Stream)

My friend Bich Ngoc sent me this amazing picture of OKGo taken in 2002 last Friday. I've been cracking up abt it all day. Thought i would share. The band has a new album coming out Aug. 30th called Oh No. I found an amazing video of these fools practicing their new dance in a backyard on the web and had to add it to my MySpace page. Click here to check it out. Pointless entertainment on a blah "Munday."

Had a fantastic weekend going to see Shout Out Louds at the Wiltern with Kings of Leon and The Secret Machines, ended up on a roof in downtown and eventually in my own bed tangled in my blankets roasting like a turkey in this sweltering heat. You can download a kick ass Ratatat remix of Shout Out Louds song "Very Loud" above.

Morningwood just added their new video for "Jetsetter" to their site. The band will be blowing through LA this next week playing 5 shows in SoCal. I will be at each and everyone of them. I seriously <3 this band. Singer Chantal Claret's in your face punk rock meets romper room meets 70s porn burlesque stage presence is not to be missed. New album comes out in January 2006 and already is in my top 10 for the year.

Tonight Metal Skool at its new home at the Key Club. May or may not go. Im exhausted and have to figure out my housing situation.

Tomorrow Run Run Run at Spaceland and The Echo for "Kiss or Kill." Special performance this week at Kiss Or Kill. You will be KICKING Yourself if you miss it TRUST ME.

The Bitch Is Back

Idlewild - "Love Steals Us From Loneliness" (Video)
Official Site
MySpace

I had someone tell me I was "Mean" on Hollywood Blvd. last night. Now seriously, I may be a little temperamental but moi MEAN? I like to think Im a very pleasant person. Almost as pleasant as Idlewild's new video for "Love Steals Us From Loneliness."

I personally am VERY EXCITED for these scotts' new album entitled Warnings/Promises. It hits U.S. shores August 16th. I recieved a copy of it abt a week ago and have been slowly falling in love with it everyday since. The single "Love Steals Us From Loneliness" is a wonderful song worth repeating. The video is even better. WATCH IT HERE.

Back to la-la land. The Go! Team are in town playing two SOLD OUT Troubadour shows. Last night's show was amazing. Tonight I have a feeling will be even better. The UK group were just nominated for the coveted Shortlist Mercury prize along with Bloc Party, Coldplay, Kaiser Chiefs, and The Magic Numbers to name a few. The Go! Team's delightful mix of hip hop, cheer, funk, jazz, and "Up With People" spunk make them a strong contender for the award. I wish them the best.

Ahh tonight The Troubadour. Tomorrow the Wiltern. Sunday The Whisky. Next week....MARS.

p.s. Im Not MEAN Asshole.

The Lovemakers Got Me PREGGERS Last Night

MP3s
The Lovemakers - "Shake That Ass" (MP3)
Ima Robot - "No Control" (MP3) NEW DEMO!!
The Gun Shys - "Easy On The Eyes" (MP3)

Another day, another right wing propaganda spattered update for all of you. My hermit lifestyle has taken a giant upswing for the better/worse (what ever way you view it) as I headed out for what was assumed to be just another night at Club Moscow.

Those who have been to the weekly club at Boardners know its really the ONLY place to be on Wednesday night. All the hot new indie rock, great DJs, ample back patio complete with fountain to ash your "le drag," and one crazy cool host - Moscow promoter Keith Wilson. In a city where clubs come and go as often as hair weaves Moscow Wednesdays' 10 month existence, laundry list of past performers, and ridiculously large crowds are a testament to its staying power.

For the average Hollywood scene kid Moscow is a mid-week mecca to combat boredom and commiserate with comrades. For the Rock Insider it means Social Anxiety Disorder and claustrophobia. I fought my demons and ventured out in the hopes of catching Oakland CA's The Lovemakers in action. If Electropop, three-ring circus chic, and pastor phil had a baby it would be this amazing band. It was BANANAS! Their debut album comes out August 23rd on Cherry Tree/Interscope.

A handful of major label scouts were also in the Moscow crowd to dissect local favs The Gun Shys. I've watched this band grow over the past year from just another wintry brit-pop band to being able to carry a show. A vast improvement from earlier days but am I sold on the project? Only time will tell.

Last but certainly not least, Ima Robot are back in the studio recording the follow-up to their 2003 self-titled release! Yay!!! Yeah, I know, YOU DON'T BELIEVE ME. Seriously, not yanking your chain. Need proof? Head over to the bands' MySpace profile to see pics taken in the studio.

I THREW MY SERVER OUT THE WINDOW

MP3S

American Eyes - "Knife Fight With A Girl" (Mp3)
Under The Influence Of Giants - "Mama's Room" (Mp3)
Hollywood Undead - "The Kids" (Mp3)
Marjorie Fair - "Empty Room" (iTUNES FREE DOWNLOAD)
Kiev - "Bam You Betta" (Stream)

Im Baaaack! Oh so you though you could kill me web server but you didn’t!!! Muahahahahaaa!!!! Rock Insider is back and better than ever!

Last night I made my triumphant return to the Sunset Strip after a 4-week absence by hitting up 4 DIFFERENT SHOWS in the same night. I must be crazy or just COMPLETELY BANANAS! Sorry to disappoint with my absence. It’s been a crazy 2 months but I’m so blessed to have amazing friends who helped me through it.

Stop one last night was the Marjorie Fair CD Listening Party at The Bar. Seriously, if you have not heard the new album, Self Help Serenade, yet YOU NEED TO. The single “Empty Room” still gets me everytime I hear it on Indie. Head over to iTUNES this week where the track is the featured Single Of The Week and you can download it for FREE!!! Marjorie Fair is hitting the road with my girls Tegan And Sara later this month and I’m mad as hell they wont be stopping in LA for that - CURSES!!!

Next up the ASCAP showcase at the Troubadour with alumni Rock Insider featured artist Under The Influence Of Giants. Word on the street is the band just inked a deal with reputable major label. Their new Mama’s Room EP hasn’t left my car for months and random stumblings into members of UTIOG on the strip are usually the highlight of my nights out (Joshy I love you). I couldn’t stay for the show because of overlapping obligations and I couldn’t find anyone I knew so I left somewhat disappointed. Knowing UTIOG however the crowd was not disappointed.

Wow stop # 3 on the whirlwind night back - My favorite place in the world, THE KEY CLUB for Clear Static and my boys In American Eyes. American Eyes were fresh off their tour with Go Betty Go looking fly with new haircuts and tans from spending hrs baking in a van. Great show.

Ran into Shady Jeff from Hollywood Undead in front of the Key Club sans mask. I was a little tipsy and in a feisty mood so I slapped him for not wearing his damn hockey mask (Call me you fucker)!! The band will be shooting a video with my DTR fallout compadre Pax Franchot (dir. From First To Last, Jenoah, The Early November) in the coming weeks. Find info abt how you can be in the video on the band's exploding MySpace profile.

Damn, woozy as hell by this point so my friend Ryan drove. Check out his awesome band Kiev here. We ended up at Swingers to use the lavatory and later ended up at El Cid for Kiss Or Kill. Kiss or Kill Is normally held every Tuesday at the Echo but a show resulted in the venue change. Let me tell you I had an ABSOLUTE BLAST at this club. Bang Sugar Bang played righteous old school punk rock to a boisterous crowd. Everyone at the club made it a point to come up and say hello to me and chat. It felt like a family reunion I didn’t know I was kin to but felt right at home at. Jeff from Dead Kennedys filled out the night raucous impromptu sing-a-long and by the end the entire crowd was up on stage singing along without care or caution of what may or may not be “cool”. Kiss or Kill is pure un-adulterated fun filled with people bound to be your true friends for life. IM GOING BACK NEXT WEEK FOR SURE!

Damn exhausted. Still lots to catch all of you up on. This post is just a smidgen of what’s been going on in my crazy world. Tonight - Liz Phair Listening Party and later Moscow for She Wants Revenge and The Lovemakers. If you see me out and about be sure to say hello.
