I finally downloaded the entirety of Deerhunter's new Rainwater Cassette Exchange EP over the weekend and have been listening to it nonstop. The Georgia four piece continue to put out one solid shoegaze/psychedelic rock meets punk offering after another. It also helps that vocalist Bradford Cox voice just exudes charisma.
You can download "Rainwater Cassette Exchange" - the EP's trippy title track above. Purchase the whole EP over at EMUSIC.
The band are current touring abroad but will return to the west coast August 29th performing live at the Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, CA. Single day passes go on sale next Sunday. Thank god. There's no way I could afford those 3 day passes.
HOT MP3 ALERT - Chad VanGaalen - City Of Electric Light
Chad VanGaalen (Calgary, Canada)
Sorry I didn't get around to posting yesterday. I'll be perfectly honest - I had a lost day watching Veronica Mars over at TheWB.com. They have the entire 3rd season streaming online for free and I got sucked in.
Lots to do today but to start the morning off I thought I would introduce you to another track off Chad VanGaalen's unbelievable album Soft Airplane. "City Of Electric Light" is more up-tempo and dare I say "happier" than his usual haunting ballads of death and destruction. It's still slightly twisted which is exactly what you would expect from the visual artist and troubadour.
Chad is heading over to the UK and Europe with label mates WOMEN. Check out dates below! Soft Airplane is out now via Sup Pop.

Rock Insider's little record label that could JAXART Records will be releasing Rademacher's new digital EP entitled ERA on Sept 30th! The band will also be doing a FREE residency at The Echo every Monday in October to celebrate the release.
I have been a fan of the band for well over a year and I'm so excited to be putting out what I consider to be their best recordings to date. The 4 song EP is simply gorgeous. I won't gush too much about the record because obviously I'm biased towards it

For something a little different: Nick Jaina's in town tonight
Many of you are like who the heck is Nick Jaina. Last year I read a post on Music for Robots about Nick that showcased one of his songs and was immediately enthralled with the well thought out intricasy of the song. Bought the album the last time he came through and played a duet set at Genghis Cohen. I'm even more in love with how memorable each of the songs are now. His songwriting and arranging is some of the best I've heard from a neo folk act in quite sometime. He comes off as being very honest in his music and that's one thing that is often so refreshing to hear...artists that aren't trying to be anything but themselves.
This Saturday Rock Insider alongside our super good friends Radio Free Silverlake and KXLU will be presenting the very promising local indie rockers Radars To The Sky at The Echo. The buzz on this band has been steadily brewing since the release of their debut EP in February. I haven't had the opportunity to see them yet and I'm quite excited about experiencing them live.

The Cure bestow the blessing by choosing 65daysofstatic
As reported here (as well as everywhere on the web), The Cure will be touring this Fall in the US with a new album to boot. They've handpicked UK instrumental rockers, 65daysofstatic to open up for them for their tour (Static's tour starts July 18th).
You may have heard of them via Kerrang Magazine rave reviews ("utterly peerless") as well as Harp, Stylus and Magnet magazine that are just now catching on to what I already knew. Some lucky souls also may have caught them when they played SXSW for the Fanatic Promotion showcase where they made their American debut to a very enthusiastic crowd. Their new album sold out so fast that their record label was sent hustling to print up more to satisfy the masses.
"Don't Go Down to Sorrow"
You should familiarize yourself with them...they're well on their way to being HUGE!

Let's Independent Show Tonight! Hipster Price= Free
Going to Boardner's for a show always brightens my day. Tonight will be no different as I'll be there for a great lineup. Bedroom Walls, Tandemoro and Frankel will be filling the bill. If you see the tall guy snapping pictures left and right grab my butt and buy me a drink.
So, as always, Radiohead make the music world smile by saying they're almost done with a new record. We get giddy and ponder about how they'll reinvent themselves and possibly reinvent the way we think about progressive music. To the hardcore fan there's no real news from them. But to those who don't sit behind a computer screen looking stuff like this up all day you might have missed when the new songs appeared online via their past tour. For those few people I give you some songs that have a super high probability of being on the album:
