Video Premieres: Silversun PIckups "Panic Switch" + The Voyeurs "The Night I I Died"

Silversun Pickups (Los Angeles, CA)

LA local legends Silversun Pickups unveiled their new video for "Panic Switch" today on MTVu.com. The dark and brooding video features the band doing what they do best - rocking the fuck out and setting the mood. Y'all want to know why I started playing a Thunderbird bass? Look no further the Silversun bassist Nikki Monninger's absolutely gorgeous white thunderstick. I saw that puppy back in 2005 and there was no going back.

Silversun Pickups will be performing at the glasshouse in Pomona on April 12th as well as Coachella next weekend.

Up and coming east side duo The Voyeurs also released their first video today for "The Night I Died." The colorful and whimsical video was shot in Highland Park (anyone else recognize the ALH?) and was done all in one take - backwards and forwards. The video also marks the first video by photographer Benjamin Hoste - whose work was recently featured in the Exposure exhibit alongside fellow shutterbugs Jeff Koga and Simon Cardoza. Watch the video below!

Video: Exitmusic - Here Sunset

Exitmusic (Los Angeles, CA)

Check out Exitmusic's new video for "Here Sunset." Technically the video was shot a while ago but the band finally was able to finish editing it.

It's been far too long since I've seen these guys live. The band are playing two benefit shows in next couple of weeks including VoicesVoices tour benefit at The Smell on Feb 22nd. More details on that later!

From Devon and Aleksa:

"Come see our new video for 'here's sunset' (actually a pretty old video that we finally got around to editing, DIY style. notice, if you will, the exquisitely executed animated sequences. pixar will no doubt be banging down the door.
)
we shot most of it at Aleksa's birthday party a couple years ago. we love it.

Fujiya & Miyagi: (Brighton, UK)

Fujiya & Miyagi unveiled their new video for "Sore Thumb" this week on Pitchfork TV. It made me fabulously dizzy just watching it.

The track is off their new album Lightbulb that was released in September. Their down-tempo inspired indie rock tunes are the kind of tracks you'd expect to listen while shopping at the latest shops on Robertston Blvd. Simple elegance and style seems to be this act's forte.

Fujiya & Miyagi also announced dates for their upcoming U.S. Tour. Be sure to check them out when they hit the Echoplex on Mar 3rd!

VIDEO: Deerhoof - Basket Ball Get Your Groove Back

Deerhoof (San Francisco, CA)

Just the other day I was running errands and felt the need to bust out The Runners Four. I must say I love Deerhoof's early experimental music but their new more pop focused tunes are just magnificent.

The band released their new video for "Basket Ball Get Your Groove Back" today. The track is off their new album Offend Maggie which is out now via Kill Rock Stars. I thought it would be damn near impossible for Deerhoof to top last years' Friend Opportunity which was easily one of my favorite albums of 2007. Offend Maggie certainly rises to the occasion.

Noah And The Whale Announce December Tour

Noah And The Whale (London, UK)

I missed Noah and The Whale's set at Detour Fest because they played at the same time as The Monolators. Most people know them as that one band from that one car commercial, but their happy go lucky feel good tunes really encompass more than just hocking hubcaps. Everyone I talked to at the fest who had seen them had nothing but raving words to say. I was more than a bit disappointed.

So boy was I stoked this morning when I received an e-mail this morning announcing that they will back stateside in December.

the band will be performing at The Troubadour on December 18th. Tickets are available for purchase for $15 right here. Get 'em early though - I really have a feeling this thing is going to sell out.

VIDEO The Dears - Money Babies

The Dears (Montreal, Quebec Canada)

If there is one song that could be pegged as the theme song for our current economic situation it would be "Money  Babies" by  The Dears . The fuzz laden track swells and falls like the recent dow jones and is propelled by the chorus which repeats "Our Money Is Elastic" numerous times. The band just released a video for the single which premiered yesterday on MTV2's Subterranean Blog. Check out the video below.

The Dears will be performing two show in NYC during CMJ before hitting the road with The Secret Machines. Dates can be found below. Missiles is in stores Next Monday October 21st on Dangerbird Records.

Speaking of CMJ -  I'm seriously considering going. A little last minute but I'm suddenly inspired to see New York in the fall while I still have the free time. Video: Katy Perry - Hot N Cold

KATY PERRY (Los Angeles, CA)

OK, I have to give Katy Perry props. This video is deliciously fabulous. It reminds me of back when MTV actually played videos. The narrative tale of a bride out for revenge on her hot and cold would be life partner is absolutely entertaining. Dudes and dudettes, there's even a dance number with wedding dresses and baseball bats and break dancers. Its over the top pop genius.

Throw Me The Statue (Seattle, WA)

I'll ask the question but I do believe you already know the answer....

Is it possible to watch Throw Me The Statue's new video for "Lolita" and NOT have huge smile on your face?

The answer is NO.

I've recently become obsessed with the Seattle based project's slightly twisted but still absolutely delicious indie pop songs. "Lolita" is off their new album Moonbeams which you can pick up via Secretly Canadian.

Introducing The Voyeurs

The Voyeurs (South Bay, CA)

I've known about The Voyeurs for quite some time now and have been waiting until I found the right time and the right words to talk about them. Today seems like the perfect day for such introductions.

Most of you probably recognize them as former members of E>K>U>K and current side project Vaudeville. Its members are also the brains behind the burgeoning South Bay label Otik Records. Voyeurs drummer Sean Johnson and has also been spotted playing with the likes of Shirley Rolls and The Sweet Hurt and some of you may know them as the kickball champions with keen fashion sense. These guys are ubiquitous around town and are always down to help out a friend. I'm actually shocked that I haven't written about them before!

The Voyeurs rose from the ashes of the now defunct pulse-pounding rock act E>K>U>K. Their music still displays the raw energy and catchy tunes that became an E>K>U>K trademark but takes the sound one step further with a FANTASTIC mix of 60s pop and down n' dirty classic rock. It's tunes like these that gets me excited about music again. Their songs are totally solid and show a great deal of promise. My personal favorite is "Things That People Say" which can be heard on the band's myspace page and the video posted below.

The Voyeurs will be playing at Charlie O's TONIGHT with The Rolling Blackouts and The Lieutenants - who have been getting some airplay on Indie 103. Show starts at 9pm and is only $5. I have a prior engagement in the evening but I'm going to rush like hell to try and make it in time for The Voyeurs!

The MP3 posted below is a demo. Head over to The Voyeurs myspace page to listen to more kick ass tracks that give you a sense of their sound.

It's Friday night and the weekend's here. I was bored at work when my friend sent me a link to this video of The Dodos performing "Ashley" live in Montreal. It is my favorite song by The Dodos and they NEVER seem to play it in LA.

The Dodos will be performing an in-store at Amoeba Records in Hollywood on April 23rd at 7PM before heading out to Coachella to play as part of Akron/Family's band. You can them again at the Natural History Museum on May 2nd. Save the dates!

This may go down as the weirdest music video anyone has ever sent me. Excepter are a New York based electronica project with trance and noise straight out the asylum area of your local haunted house. I feel slightly insane after watching this video. I think I'm going to have nightmares tonight.

Watch at your own risk. It's strangely fascinating and hypnotic. Excepter will be playing at the Echo April 26th - if anyone is brave enough to go - please send me a review!

VIDEO: SIlversun Pickups - Little Lover's So Polite

Silversun Pickups' new video for "Little Lover's So Polite"

Silversun Pickups unveiled a new music video on MTVu this week for "Little Lover's So Polite" - the band's 3rd single of their juggernaut album Carnavas. The album has sold over 300K units since debuting back in July of 2006 - cementing their status as one of the biggest bands to break out of Silverlake period.

The video was directed by none other than actor Joaquin Phoenix - famous for his role as Johnny Cash in Walk The Line (man was he yummy in that movie). The "Lover's" video features the band being pulled on the back of a truck through downtown LA as they perform to the track. It looks pretty good although I must say that treatment - SOO been done before.

After touring pretty much NON STOP through 2007 with the likes of Snow Patrol the band seem to be enjoying a much needed and well deserved break. Only a few sparse shows in Hawaii and a date at Mammoth are posted up on their myspace page.

I for one am curious to hear what their new album may entail.

Check out the video for "Little Lover's So Polite" below.

Amy Winehouse is down with Shwayze. Go watch their new video at MTVu

Shwayze's video for "Buzzin" is now up for voting on MTVu's Freshman. I got to spend some time on the video shoot for this video. It was directed by Robert Hales of who famously did Gnarls Barkley's video for "Crazy." I was freezing my butt off in a peacoat so I can only imagine what these girls were going through in the video. Haha, It came out looking RAD though

It's The Fourth of July In Feist land.

What a great video, but DAMN that looks dangerous. I wonder how many takes they had to do to get that right.

Just yesterday I had an argument with someone about Feist. I don't care. I love her voice. Feist is nominated for a Grammy for Best New Artist this year. If the writer's strike doesn't shut down the show it will air on Feb. 10, 2008.

Video Alert: You Say Party! We Say Die! "Monster"

Vancouver, BC's You Say Party! We Say Die!

[MP3] You Say Party! We Say Die! - Monster

Why is all the best music coming from Canada? My good buddy Trevor at Paper Bag Records (Home of Fembots, The Acorn, Tokyo Police Club) introduced me to Vancouver BC's You Say Party! We Say Die! just over a year ago. I instantly fell in love with the band's proto-punk attitude and singer Becky Ninkovic's heavenly voice. Their music hovers halfway between Pretty Girls Make Graves and The Blood Brothers - two of my favorite bands of all time.

The band just finished a video for their ballad "Monster" which is MTV Subterranean worthy if you ask me. "Monster" is already one of my favorite tracks of the year. The band will be playing European Festivals this summer.

Do yourself a favor and pick up YSP!WSD! latest album Lose All Time. it's CRAZY GOOD.

Local Vids: The Airborne Toxic Event + The Transmissions

The Airborne Toxic Event

[MP3] The Airborne Toxic Event- Does This Mean You're Moving On?

I ran into Mike the singer from The Airborne Toxic Event at The Viper Room this past Monday. The band recently returned from an amazing tour in the UK. Read all about it over at Inflight At Night. He mentioned they had a new video done and I just had to post it.

The band will be playing the Bates stage (4100 Sunset) at this year's Sunset Junction Street Festival on Sunday August 19th. Also confirmed for Sunset Junction - Just about every single one of my favorite LA Bands (The Pity Party, Division Day, Sea Wolf, Eskimohunter, Autolux).

View the complete lineup here.

Ben Harper and Blonde Redhead are set to headline, but we all know who will steal the festival - I'm talking about Morris Day & The Time.

[VIDEO] Michael Leviton - Summer's The Worst

I got an email the other day from Michael Leviton. He just finished a new video for "Summer's The Worst"- one of my favorite tracks of 2006. The video is a short educational film about the dangers of summer romance. Beautiful video with a very fishy ending. You can read more about the making of the video here.

New York readers can enjoy Michael and his ukulele this Sunday night at Goodbye Blue Monday in Bushwick. Michael is on at 9 PM and the show is FREE.
